TRANSLATED (NOT FINISHED) MANUAL OF L3-3 TUBE TESTER

There are two German translations around, of which one is even more silly translated than the other. I would like to start a translation of the Russian manual here (see link on this website). If any of you want to make some changes, or addings, I would be much pleased to place it here on this website. I intend to document this Russian masterpiece of technology here. Right now, the problem for common use, is the lack of an English manual. I have translated this with Google, but as you will notice, Google is not so good for translating text. Oh Well it is better then nothing, but I do I hope there are some Russian people reading this, and are interested to help. Please don't get stuck with over-complicated ways to express things. Just break up the long Russian sentences, to get an easy to read English text.

Take as an example the "introduction" text (below) which was one long complicated sentence in Russian, which is ok in Russian, but needs to be broken up in smaller sentences to get normal English text.

Also.... What is the BRAND of it???

Thanks! Please email help info to :

Some notes from jacmusic
To get a basic result, like measure plate current, make sure you do this: Set the left rotation switch to "NAP", and set both toggle swicthes to the left, and press the left push button. (Forget any of those, and you'll have NO reading). The parameter you are testing (like Plate Current) is choosen with the right rotation switch. Provided you have a test card and a tube inserted, and set the voltages right, it should work now. For transcinductance and leakage, you need to go throught the calibration routine, for precision results. Low precision can be done without calibration. All other functions need no calibration.
In case you buy an L3-3 and it needs a repair, make sure you have the original printed circuit diagram with it, it is very detailed. Unlike USA testers, the L3-3 works very logical, and is constructed extremely user friendly. All capacitors and resistors are ultimate quality, numbered clearly and precise, critical switches are made of ceramic, wiring is good quality, the transformer is hughe, surely not underrated. The meter is high precision. All wires have little plastic number tags around them, and since you can find back the wire numbers on the schematic too, it's very helpfull to have the original schematic with it. The only thing that could be better are the wire wound pot meters on the deck, but you can replace those by new ones easliy. I recommend to replace those by 10-turn helicoil pots, as I did.
The transconductance part of the tester, is very beautiful made, with a band pass filter, etc. However the internal electronics need use a calibration every few years. The tester meter can be used for that, but it needs to be done. So.... for this we need the English translation at first. I have two L3-3, one seems to need an internal calibration, the other not. Both are about 20...25 years old. So I guess a calibration every 10 years or so would be fine.

INTRODUCTION

This manual describes the working principle and operation of the L3-3 tester. Also it includes maintenance and calibration information, and helps you to get familiarized with the parameters that can be tested.
